Why the work here is different

A visit starts at the supply and works inward. Voltage at the outlet or the junction box, gas pressure at the appliance under load, then the part that has been accused, then the path that reaches it. A control board fitted onto a supply fault is a board that fails twice, and a good share of what gets called a dead board is a broken path to a healthy one.
Most kitchens on this route are of the last three decades, and the professional appliance in them usually arrived during a remodel rather than with the house. That sequence leaves its own marks: an opening widened without keeping the specified side clearance, a gas run sized for the builder range that used to be there, a dedicated circuit that was shared with whatever was nearest, a hood duct that took the route the framing allowed rather than the shortest one. Steam was escaping around the door and the cabinet above had begun to swell. He replaced the door seal and adjusted the catch, then told me plainly that the swelling was a cabinet job and not his to fix.
